A Quick Met Gala Recap
I totally spaced on the Met Gala and so I HAD to do a quick little recap to review the truly ridiculous, totally boring and totally great dresses.
My favorites that were both on theme (China) and pretty:
Bee Shaffer (Anna Wintour’s daughter) was perfection in Alexander McQueen with a huge gorgeous crane or phoenix on the train. The perfect gown for this event. Too bad mama looked crazypants.
I thought Kate Mara’s DVF dress also fir the theme and was dramatic but still pretty and very “her”. I would have done a gunmetal shoe instead of white, personally. Lizzy Kaplan’s dress would have been amazing in a better color, but I like the draping, the embroidery and the earrings. The back was really great too.
I think Olivia Munn and Aaron Rogers are the CUTEST (okay, most stunning) couple and they looked amazing. Her dress is different but still really pretty.
Emily Blunt always looks classy and this is a vintage-inspired look that works on her- the cape wasn’t my favorite at first, but then I remembered the theme and I dug it. And Diana Agron needed WAY more dramatic earrings and a colorful clutch, but this Tory Burch was pretty.
Those who looked pretty but not exactly “on theme”:
Uma Thurman slayed it- look at her! Those earrings, that body, that dress? REGAL.
This is the best Kristen Wiig has looked on a red carpet in a long time. And Kate Hudson exuded star quality in this gold number, but both are a bit underwhelming for a “themed” event.
Kate and Candace also looked amazing and glamorous- more Oscars than Met Ball I think.
Reese and Sofia look perfectly lovely but I feel like I’ve seen both of them in these exact looks five times before, no?
Helen Mirren was straight killin’ it. Per usual.
I cannot staaaaaaand the Kardashians but Kendall IS a stunner and this Calvin Klein dress was pretty amazing on her.
These were a little too much for me:
SJP- now, I give her props for always taking the theme hella seriously and going balls to the wall with her outfits. HOWEVER, this headdress is way too much for me- and looks far too much like flames. She could have done a statement headpiece and really pulled this off, because I think the dress is rather interesting and cool. But this went way too far.
Anne Hathaway look either like Little Gold Riding Hood or a Grace Jones impersonator. And Sienna Miller was just showing too much chest bone. The opening of the jacket was uncomfortably wide for me- perhaps if it were narrower I would have loved this.
I know everyone today is like “Rihanna is a goddess” but I didn’t dig this look. It was too much in the yellow and a bit too Big Bird reminiscent for me! She does bring the drama though!
From the “Meh…” files:
I wish Jennifer Lawrence could stop wearing only Dior. This is too busy and looks uncomfortable.
I really want to like Amal’s dress but I just don’t. She is gorgeous, but this looks a little…dated? Much? Froufy? But she has George so she doesn’t give a crap what anyone thinks of her dress. :)
I AM SO SO SO SO OVER THIS TREND category:
Beyonce, J.Lo and Kim Kardashian in this whole “naked” dress thing. I really do not like this look for many reasons- trying too hard, giving too much away and frankly, not very flattering on these incredibly beautiful women.
Like, we get it, you have a good body. Noted.
And yes, we know you have huge boobs and a big bum. Also, no need to show it ALL off at once. Literally, all of it. Why wear a dress?
This is like one big red neon arrow pointing right at her famous “assets”.
You wanna wear a little sheer fabric? Then take a look at Rosie Huntington- Whitley and take notes.
And then we have the “JUST NO” file:
NOPE.
NOPE.
DOUBLE NOPE.
CHANEL BRAND NOPE.
GIANT, PUFFY NOPE. (With a side of shoe nope.)
WHAT THE SLEEVES NOPE.
