Chic Shelving
Another article in Canadian House & Home Magazines, as featured yesterday, was on styling bookshelves. I have clients ask me all the time how to make bookshelves look for polished, together and interesting. This article is hugely helpful, but I thought I’d add on some of my own suggestions as well.
-Wallpaper or bright paint applied to the backs wall of a bookshelf is unexpected and a wonderful way to add interest. It’s also a way to use bright color or pattern without committing to it on a whole wall. It also makes the items on your shelves pop. If you are in a rental or afraid of ruining your shelving use the tip from the article and cut foam core board to the size of the back of the shelf and apply the paper, paint or wrap in fabric and insert!
I am especially fond of Mrs Limestone’s shelves below (p.s. you will die when you see her renovation of her Brooklyn limestone)
Another thing you can do is organize your books by the color of the spine. It looks clean, organized and cool (albeit a tad OCD, which I certainly am not). Don’t feel the neeed to go in rainbow order!
I combined a few tips here by color co-ordinating and adding non book items to my Sapiens!
