So last week Pantone announced it’s Color of the Year for 2015… and it was met with a loud groan and a whole lotta “huh????”. “Marsala” was inexplicably the chosen winner, and most of the design community seems to be left scratching their heads. A dusty rose, this color just does nothing for me. Perhaps a deeper shade of burgundy, or a brighter orange red, but this neither-here-nor-there color just looks… mushy.
Fashion-Color of the Year

In fact, when I see it all that pops into my head is a situation like this:

I’m not really one to believe that there is ONE color of the year, and the constant, forced “Radiant Orchid” chatter last year made me want to drive right into oncoming traffic. But if forced to pick a favorite color for this year, I’m going to go ahead and pick a shade of bright, clean, “Santorini-meets-Delft” looking blue like these below.

The reason? Just personal preference! I’ve been obsessed with the blue velvet on these chairs below in Michelle Smith’s apartment ever since I blogged about her space.  OBSESSED. Similarly, I’ve love, love, loved this Wisteria chair for many months too.

Blue isn’t anything revolutionary, it tends to be the color we use most in homes because it’s popular with women and men- but I think you’ll see this particular shade a lot in spring- in clothing and home accessories. It’s happy, classic but bold too. And I feel like there is going to be a resurgence of traditional decor in our future (at least in MY future). Here’s some inspiration…

L to R: Benjamin Moore Paddington Blue, Benjamin Moore Blue Wave, Farrow & Ball Chinese Blue, Benjamin Moore Aquarius

And if you do like Marsala- these two colors actually work well together. :)

What color are you feeling for your home this year???
