80 Days of Summer Challenge

eighty days of summer

I love hobbies and have quite a lot of things that I do for fun, but typically bounce around to this or that, never really perfecting one thing.  I’ve always considered myself more of a ‘jack of all trades’ than a master of any one.  Last summer, I challenged you guys to learn something new with periodic check ins to see how you were doing.  This summer I’m inviting you all to another challenge, however, I want to do it a little differently.

This weekend while I was preparing yesterday’s baby registry post, it became shockingly clear as I looked at the day by day countdown on my registry page, that my days are numbered.  It’s not even something that should be measured in months anymore, but the weeks or days remaining.

With my eighty remaining days, I’m going to challenge myself (and you guys) to do one thing every day that helps further a skill.  In last summers’ challenge, we had six ‘check-ins’ but this year, I want to keep a rolling hashtag of how we are pushing ourselves every day to accomplish a goal.  You guys might have seen the 100 Day Project where people commit to doing something everyday for 100 days.  I wanted this to be very similar to that, but with just 80 days and specific to teaching yourself a new skill or improving a skill you’d like to hone.

I wholeheartedly believe that to improve at anything, you need to do it regularly and consistently.  I’ve heard so many people claim that pushing yourself is bad for the creative process, but I adamantly disagree.  When I started blogging, I heard people say, “if you don’t have something to blog about, don’t push yourself, just blog as it comes”.  I laugh about that because pushing myself to keep a consistent schedule over the last five years is arguably what made me grow.  Sometimes pushing myself in an area where I’m uncomfortable or uncertain has yielded some of the best results of my career.

SO, here is where YOU get involved!  Not only do I want to see you do something everyday for the next eighty days, I want you to challenge those close to you!  Grab a friend and do it together!

All you need to do is:

  • Photograph a piece of your daily progress for 80 days.  It can just be a snapshot to show you’re working.  This starts today and ends on Labor Day weekend.
  • Post your photo to instagram
  • Use the hashtag #EHC80daysofsummer

That’s it! I’ll regram your photos and at periodic points throughout the summer, I’ll be showcasing your photos on the blog (with your permission!), so don’t forget to use the hashtag.

The photo above is a sneak peek of what I’ll be doing, but hop over to my instagram today (@earnesthomeco_) and see what I’ve chosen as my #80daysofsummer challenge!  See you on Insta!!
