DIY Subway Tile Mirror

I think I’m speaking for all of us when I say that I love subway tile.  I honestly considered just covering every wall in my bathroom with it.  To hell with paint, I’m going full on tile. Needless to say that hasn’t happened yet, but don’t think the idea isn’t crawling around in the back of my mind.

The downside of subway tile is (there’s a downside?!?!), well, you have to tile something to use it. If you live in a rental or aren’t undergoing a renovation, it might not be in the cards for you… until now.

The best news is that I made this tile border mirror for less than $30. It’s the truth.  Having your very own chunk of subway tile decor isn’t out of reach or out of budget.  What’s more (wait, there’s more?) it took me all of 30 minutes to make. I’ll show you the 4 easy steps if you’d like to have your own gorgeous mirror.

ONE separate the tile. If you can find loose 2 x 4 tile, then go ahead and get yourself 55 individual tiles as opposed to the sheets. TWO cut off the gluey globs on all sides.

THREE lay out all of the tile along the border of the mirror, staggering the edges as shown. The tile will hang over the edge of the mirror by about 1/2 inch all around. FOUR one by one, pick up the tile and apply a thin layer of glue, then set it back into place.

Allow the tile to dry for 24 hours before moving.  If you’d like to adhere to the drywall, there is a particular adhesive to do this.  Otherwise, there are tons of mirror hanging hardware options at the hardware store!

I think this would look fabulous above a vanity in a guest bathroom and hope you have just the perfect spot for it!  Have fun!

P.S.  I am also posting on the Bali Blinds Blog today showing off the newest change in my master bedroom!  Check it out and give me your two cents!
