Even if you’re not a cook or a baker, making something impressive from the wonderful, fresh produce available this time of year isn’t out of the question. Compound butter is so so easy and , belive me, your friends will be impressed.  There are so many iterations possible, I am totally sure that you’ll find one that suits you.

Yesterday, I was excited to use some of the herbs I’d brought home from the local farmers’ market, and thought that making compound butter would be a great way to get multiple uses out of the fresh bundles with little effort.  This project uses store-bought butter, brought to room temperature, and couldn’t get easier.

Keep Reading for the step-by-step and some fun combinations!

I don’t use my mixer too often because, aside from holidays, I’m not a huge baker.  I always get excited to use it for something, however, so I got it out for this butter.   Doing it by hand with either a spatula or a hand mixer would work just as well.

ONE unwrap two sticks of unsalted butter into the mixing bowl. TWO add your desired ingredients THREE mix until everything is combined well FOUR package it into a resealable container.

See how easy that was? I’ll even give you some suggestions for delicious combinations!

Lavender Honey – add one tablespoon fresh lavender blooms with two tablespoons honey.

Lemon Basil – add the zest of one lemon, two tablespoons finely chopped fresh basil, and a few dashes of coarse sea salt.

Rosemary Garlic – add two pressed garlic cloves, two tablespoons finely chopped fresh rosemary, and a few dashes of coarse sea salt.

I intend to mix the lemon basil butter in with some fresh spaghetti noodles for a quick weeknight meal.  The lavender honey butter will be an amazing on top of a fresh biscuit, and the rosemary garlic will definitely find its way onto some redskin potatoes in my near future.  Of course, any of them smeared onto some crusty bread would be delightful.

So, are you willing to give it a try?

Have a TASTY Tuesday!
