Each day, I come here and I post about projects, tutorials, inspiring homes, and beautiful products. In the work I do for the blog, both in planning for the posts and in planning projects for my own home, I look at the big picture a lot. I’m a big picture kind of girl. I can see happiness in my future with my husband and our goals, but I don’t always see happiness in the present. I’d say this is my biggest downfall. I’m always looking forward, but not always right in front of me.
Last week, my husband, Matt, shared an amazing article with me about the ‘habit of happiness’. Unlike other similar articles, this one had some really actionable points about how to make each day happier. He focuses on three ways to make ourselves happy and actually notice and relish in what’s going on around us.
It makes me think of the little things that I do for my home that I don’t necessarily blog about. Sewing a new button on something that was missing one, buying produce from a farmers market, keeping little flower arrangements by my bedside, the list could go on.
All of this to say that focusing on what makes us happy today doesn’t take anything away from planning for future happiness. We don’t have to wait to be happy until ‘one day when…’ We can choose happiness right now, and I’ll bet that happiness right now will only compound make the future much, much sweeter.
