Styling little spaces around my home is my release. If you come over to my house at any given point, chances are, things aren’t how you last saw them. I have trouble leaving any surface alone and am constantly redesigning vignettes, swapping around furniture or changing out art. This is something I most definitely learned from my mother who used to move around furniture all of the time while I was growing up. While I can’t really move around the layout of my rooms (they’re tiny enough to where things really are where they are), I’ve taken to creating and styling surfaces and walls all around the house.
My styling process is a little hard to describe, but readers have asked enough times for me to share that I knew I’d have to show you my mindset and thought process while styling different areas of my house. I started the series out my talking through the types and varieties of items I typically choose when styling. Check out this post for full details! What’s more, I also made a video (my first with voice over, so be kind!) to outline a shorted version of how I arrived at my end result.
Don’t be afraid to get together a whole slew of accessories and swap them in and out until you like what you’ve got! I never end up where I started when styling a surface, so be kind to yourself and give yourself some time to feel your way through the process. If something isn’t quite right, but you can’t put your finger on what, then leave it for a few days and you’ll find yourself figuring out what looks and feels best to you.
Our next styling post (and video!) will be how to style a bedside table! Subscribe to the House of Earnest channel to get the latest videos!
